Description

I saved about 30+ steps for my last deviation (2015 Lanaelle - FINAL), 12 are good enough.

From top left :
1. Opened my previous portrait of Lanaëlle, re-sketched it, making her stand straight.
2. From there, I placed some features, refined the lines.
3. Lowering the opacity of the previous layer, making a cleaner linework
4. Beginning the greyscale work, mostly with soft brush
5. Painted over the lines, making them disappear. At this point, I just wanted to get rid of that armor-type jacket I made. It's cool, but I think her two mechanical arms are more than enough for her.
6. Redesigned the jacket, and then the definitive arm
7. Final tweaks on the greyscale : more contrasts (with a multiply layer for darker areas, overlay at low opacity for brighter ones).
8. At first I wanted a sepia look, like the one I loved in Deux Ex : HR (Lanaëlle would be a very good Adam Jensen by the way, just a bit nastier).
9. Added Lanaëlle's general palette : pink hair/arms, marine blue outfits. Some lights in the backgrounds to justify the rim lights on her, too.
10. As she looked way too much yellowish, I swapped colors to get her a healthier skin. Lowered the violent light on her face too.
11. As you can see, I tried to make a beginning of background very early (I use to ignore that kind of stuff, backgrounds, I couldn't, here), so I just overpainted the weird figure, added some building. This was simple, really. But a huge step, for me.
12. Final tweaks. I tried to add atmospheric perspective on the background, and added some dark blue shadows on Lanaëlle.

Bonus step 13 : I flattened everything, and just look at her some minutes. Saved all the opened files.

Et voilà !

If you want a more precise explanation on any step, feel free to ask, I'll answer =)
